Welcome to the ROMEOS

4-15-2019

The sun shown bright on the ROMEOS last golf tournament of the 2018-2019 season. It was 83 degrees and it sure felt great. We had 88 golfers and 125 diners enjoying a great day of golf, putting contests, laughs, raffle prizes, and of course our 40 foot buffet table with fantastically sumptuous goodies to eat.

In the putting contest, Ron James winner of the stinkers division had a playoff with Don Smith winner of the sinkers division, with Don gaining honors to try for the $100 putt on the 9th green. As the pictures show the $100 survived and at the end of December tournament, the lenhgt of the putt will be reduced to 26 feet.

Winners of the ladies division; Gaye Yakam, Jill Warner, Garnet Baker, and Kris Pashley. Also pictured are the winners of the mixed division; Kitty Bruens, Roy Bruens, Jack Allen and Lonnie Hopson. Winners of the mens division were Dick Arnold, Todd Wagner, Herb McIntosh and Dave Yakam.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, aren’t these just a stunning group of fine athletes. Many, many, many thanks to all who support the ROMEOS, play in the tournament, donate to our golf club sale and contribute financially to our Great Causes !!

“It’s all for the kids”, we had our best year ever.

ROMEOS HIT A HOME RUN (2-19-19)

Baseball season getting ready to ramp into full swing, that means good weather. The ROMEOS squeezed in a beautiful day 80 degrees and sunny, just what we ordered. Hooray!!!

Our putting contest had Bill Brggs, the winner of the Sinkers division play against Jack Allen of the Stinkers division. Jack persevered and had a 32 foot putt for $100, his attempt missed the hole by an inch and slid a foot past. Great effort, Jack! On March 11 the putt will be reduced to 30 feet. Jack and Bill received $50 in coupons for their gallant effort.

Winners of the Mixed division were Fred Tragasser, Gary and Sharon Birtcil, and Dennis Nantt. Winners of the Mens division were Bob Strassman, Ben Green, Randy Heavrin, and 98 years old Chuck Kimmel. Great job Chuck on carrying the team.

The ROMEOS is the Men’s Ministry of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Wildwood,  Our mission is to develop funding for our scholarship programs, “It’s All For The Kids”. Our group started in 2011 with 2 Co-Chairmen and through the years interest in our program has expanded and at this point we have 8 Co-chairmen. All funding we receive goes into our scholarship program. “All meaning 100% goes to the kids”. As you can detect, our motto is “It’s all for the kids”.

We accomplish this great adventure in several ways:

We hold 5 golf tournaments during the winter months of December, January, February, March, and April.

We have a large used golf club sale in March, all clubs have been donated to our cause.

Many of our local Community, Businesses, Corporations, and Foundations are aware of our objectives and are most generous with their donations to our Scholarship Fund.

Below is a listing of our accomplishments for the 2017-2018 season:

We increased by 20% our 2 master scholarships, one for a Leesburg senior and one for a Wildwood senior going off to college.

We doubled our gifting to the Oak Park Middle School of Leesburg and the Wildwood Elementary School for their sports and physical education programs.

We continued our partnering with “Project Legacy”, a child advocacy group in Lake and Sumter Counties in Florida (www.projectlegacy.net).

Helped over 125 children attend “The Retreat at Silver Springs”. The Disciples summer camp. ( www.theretreatatsilversprings.com )

Helped 7 children involved with “Young Preforming Artist” at Royal community in Wildwood, FL to attend Summer Camp.

Enough of patting ourselves on the backs, here are some fabulous pictures:
